Why EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a mind-body, brain based therapy that accesses all three “stair steps” of the brain: neocortex (thinking brain), limbic (emotional brain), reptilian (innate, primal brain).
Adverse and traumatic experiences are stored in such a way that they write an internal narrative or curriculum. EMDR therapy can help to re-write the curriculum by restructuring how information is stored in the brain and body.
During EMDR therapy, we address three prongs: past, present, and future. During your intensive, we will give attention to current symptoms/triggers and past memories that keep the symptoms active and keep the current curriculum intact. We will also create a future template and work to resolve any concerns or fears about the future.
Not only do we use EMDR in the treatment of trauma, we also:
Resolve negative beliefs that we logically know are not true but emotionally believe strongly
Incorporate EMDR modalities to address patterns of behavior that have not been able to resolve on our own
Look at our relationship with alcohol, drugs, food, sex, and porn
EMDR has shown to help with performance enhancement, chronic pain/chronic health conditions, generalized anxiety or specific phobias, and adverse pre-verbal experiences.
